Tsunami warnings were issued for countries including Japan, the Philippines, Chile, Indonesia, New Zealand, China, Mexico, Peru, and the U.S. coast—especially Hawaii, Alaska, and California. “Urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property,” authorities warned. Hawaii’s Governor Josh Green said a “6ft wave was en route” after passing Midway Atoll.

President Donald Trump addressed the situation on Truth Social: “A Tsunami Warning is in effect for those living in Hawaii… STAY STRONG AND STAY SAFE!”

Waves between 30cm and 1.8m have already hit Alaska, Hawaii, and Japan. However, Japan’s Meteorological Agency stressed that “tsunamis are still being observed,” and more dangerous waves could follow. Nearly 1.9 million Japanese residents have been ordered to evacuate.
