Shocking footage captures flames bursting from a plane’s engines as terrified passengers describe sending ‘goodbye texts’

Passenger Leah Steininger said, “About 20 minutes later, we got the message that the gearbox had completely failed and that we’d be continuing the flight with just one.” Despite the scare, many remained calm as the pilot updated them. “The passengers stayed composed,” recalled Niklas Gelbhaar. “The pilot explained everything.”

Condor Airlines clarified that passengers were not in danger. The flames were caused by a combustion process outside the engine chamber due to disrupted airflow. The precautionary landing ensured safety.

The plane landed safely at 8:15 p.m., and all passengers disembarked normally. The aircraft underwent technical checks on site.

Not all passengers could stay overnight in Brindisi due to limited hotels. The airline provided vouchers, blankets, and reimbursement for those who arranged lodging themselves. Passengers praised the crew for their professionalism, showing how swift action and clear communication turned a potentially terrifying situation into a safe outcome.
